Oblivion Remastered, a fresh version of a beloved game in a hugely popular series that’s midway through a big gap in mainline releases, has sold really well right out of gates. It’s taken just a week to rocket into the third best-selling game of 2025 spot in the US.
People love them some Elder Scrolls, people love themselves some Oblivion, in the words of Big Todd: it just works. It also certainly doesn’t hurt that this is by-and-large a deftly-executed remaster that’s so faithful it does everything you loved about the original. I personally wish it’d gone full remake, but that’s just one guy’s opinion, man.
This sales data for Bethesda and Virtuos’ shadow-dropped thing comes from Circana’s Retail Tracking Service, with the market research firm’s executive director and well-known games industry analyst Mat Piscatella having dropped the numbers in a Bluesky post.
“After just one week in market (w/e 4.26) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered is already the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 in the US ($ sales) trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows,” he wrote, “It was the best-selling game of the week.”

It was the best-selling game of the week.

As one of the replies to the post pointed out, that means the top three games of the year US sales-wise all have optional colons in the name (I’ve seen Shadows both with and without), which is a fun coincidence. As to whether that’s a factor in their success, Piscatella joked: “Correlation implies causation. So, more colons = more $$$. Maybe throw in a cologuard free with purchase.”
The more you know. Good job, Oblivion Remastered, especially given yours is an ageing colon.
Oblivion Remastered modding’s also off to a strong start, with the first modder to add a new location to it having recently told us they reckon it’s got the potential to show us all “the pinnacle of Elder Scrolls modding”.
