Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now here, attracting hordes of players, being pretty good, and also making certain sections social media act like utter knobs. As with any big release that hits PC, that means a bunch of mods early doors, with folks already seeking to start putting their own spin on the game in a couple of classic ways.

Visit the Nexus Mods page of any big open-world game just after it comes out, and there are some things you’re almost guaranteed to see. Death, taxes, reshades, and intro skippers. At least in AC’s case a couple of exanples of that second to last one look a bit interesting.

First of all, let’s get one thing straight – I hope you prefer your colours looking very colourful, as the main thing Shadows modders have been doing this far as whacking the contrast. It’s a tried and tested approach to making things look ‘better’, dial up the colours, possibly to levels that might make people think they’re suddenly living inside in rainbow.

To be fair, both modder furqanowosho’s ‘Assassin’s creed shadows High Graphical Fidelity Ghost of Tsushima Reshade‘ and 5vle’s ‘SHOGUN – Cinematic Reshade‘ do look to pack a fair amount more visual pop than vanilla shadows does. Whether they go a bit too far in the other direction is the question.

In terms of the former, I’d say it looks to do an ok job of being Ghost of Tsushima, even if it’ll take a lot more than just making Shadows a bit more saturated to properly mirror the incredibly screenshot-friendly vistas Sucker Punch’s samurai thing regularly delivers. Plus, while different to Shush, vanilla Shadows certainly isn’t too bad in that regard. Meanwhile, 5vle’s mod looks to be the one to go for if you fancy some movie vibes, even boasting fancy “filmic tones” and optional black bars.

For something a bit more subtle than these two, there’s RabbitDoesStuff’s ‘Rabbit’s Real Shadows Reshade‘ or crubino’s ‘Simple Realistic for Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘, which look a bit more ‘vanilla plus’, ensuring Shadows’s visuals are still somewhat like its devs intended.

If you want a less cluttered UI in terms of effects because you’re an uber-hardcore gamer that probably has intense feelings about yellow paint, catchily-named modder X35129’s had a go at getting rid of stuff like the white outline around your character when they’re sneaking through grass and the markers that show corpses can be looted.

Aside from those, if you’re not a fan of waiting, logos, or both, there are already three different mods that shorten the game’s intro. One of them has the guy from the US office in its main thumbnail, because memes.

Are you part of legions of folks enjoying Shadows as is so far? What kinds of mods are you hoping people will make for it? Let us know below!
