Some news in the world of video game film adaptations, as the director behind A Quite Place: Day One, Michael Sarnoski, has been brought onto the team working on the film adaptation of Death Stranding. This film is being made in collaboration between Kojima Productions and A24. There’s still no word on a release date, but it’s early days.

According to sources speaking to Deadline, Sarnoski is currently directing and writing the film. In addition, Square Peg will produce the film, which is set to cover the mysteries behind the Death Stranding itself, something that featured plenty in the original game.

Michael Sarnoski’s two big film credits, A Quite Place: Day One and Pig, both are critically acclaimed films that won awards for the filmmaker and his peers. As mentioned above, this film is still very early in production, but bringing on an acclaimed director is certainly a good sign, especially when compared to other video game adaptations in the past which struggled to pick up much momentum. Like the Metal Gear Solid movie, for example.

This news comes after Kojima himself showed off a trailer for Death Strading 2 at SXSW last month. So it’s a great time for fans of Death Stranding, and Kojima’s other works of course. How long it’ll actually take before we see the Death Stranding movie in the form of a trailer or even photographs of the set remains unclear. But the chances we’ll get to that stage? Pretty good right now!
