After announcing that Monster Hunter Wilds has sold an impressive 10 million units in a month – making it Capcom’s fastest-selling title ever – the developer has addressed player feedback in a wide-ranging new letter.
In a blog post, game director Yuya Tokuda touched on a number of hot-topic items, and laid out a broader plan to tackle each one, as well as the timeline players can expect future developments to follow.
The letter to the community begins by thanking players for turning Monster Hunter Wilds into a record-breaking game for Capcom, and promises a free item pack will be given to all players in celebration of the 10M milestone.
Capcom has recently, of course, announced a whole host of new content and fixes coming to Wilds in first major patch, Title Update 1. The update adds a new monster – Mizutsune – alongside Tempered and Arch-Tempered versions of existing monsters. It also introduces the game’s version of the classic Gathering Hub, now called the Grand Hub.
Tokuda touched on the recent announcements in his letter, and went well beyond to reveal some of the work being done behind the scenes, and what Capcom is prioritising. The next major patch will arrive sometime this summer, but before then, there’s a big-ish update that will be released at the end of May.
The subject of game difficulty has been one of the most contentious since Wilds’ release. Monsters are inarguably less challenging compared to past games, and Capcom has vowed to add more Tempered monsters to Wilds with every update. The May update, in particular, will add Tempered versions of each region’s apex predator (Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad), as well as Tempered Gore Magala.
The Grand Hub is part of a wider initiative to improve player quality of life, in part because it consolidates so many NPCs/functions into one place. Capcom does, however, plan to make improvements elsewhere in the game.
For instance, you can expect UI/UX tweaks to make it easier to access certain features. Though the letter doesn’t share specifics, it does mention restocking items, checking skill information, joining multiplayer quests and riding the Seikret among the items being addressed.
Beyond new content, Capcom is also looking at making several balance tweaks to the game. This mainly affects weapons, with the Hammer being first on the list to get a buff. Tokuda said you can expect tweaks to other items, such as the Corrupted Mantle, which will be nerfed to stop it from being the most obvious choice. Balance adjustments also extend to the entirety of the flow of hunts, as well as the in-game economy. Once again, no specifics there, but it seems nothing is off the table.
Finally, you can expect improvements to game stability on PC, and one thing that’s worth highlighting in the letter is the reduction to the game’s VRAM usage, and an upgrade to DirectStorage that should both reduce crashing and speed up loading.
