Screens and details about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – that long-rumoured remake of the Elder Scrolls game about a soon-to-be mad realm dweller helping some potato-faced weirdos to shut some big doors so youths in hoodies can’t keep letting a draft in – appear to have leaked via Virtuos Games’ website.
This remaster has been the subject of alleged leaks and online chatter for a couple of years now, having first popped up in 2023, when someone claiming to be an ex-Virtuos Games employee popped up on Reddit, and was subsequently mentioned in some Microsoft documents which leaked during the company’s ActiBlizz deal court proceedings against the FTC.
Now, a bunch of screenshots and details about it appear to have popped up online via Virtuos Games’ website.
The screens appear to confirm that the game is called The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, rather than remake, and that it’ll be releasing for PC, Xbox Series X/S (plus Game Pass), and PS5. A deluxe edition and a normal version are seemingly coming, with the former including bonuses like extra weapons and horse armour, because of course.
There’s what looks to be some cover artwork showing re-done version of the iconic stop right there criminal scum merchant standing in front of an Oblivion gate, as well as some comparison shots showing what the remaster looks like compared to the original.
Assuming these are the real deal, the game looks to have gotten a pretty Elder Scrolls Onliney makeover, which I can’t say I’m much of a fan of, given that it seems to lack a lot of the original’s iconic character. That said, I only had time to dissect a couple before pubbing this, so it might not be as bland as I fear.
Anyway, hopefully between this and Skyblivion, which is set to arrive later this year, the near future is full of more than enough trips to Cyrodiil that remind you of a time when you wandered Tamriel’s central province for the first time. Either as a naive newcomer to the series, an old fart wondering where some of the Morrowindyness of Morrowind had gone and probably crapping yourself every time you thought you saw a cliff racer, or something else.
