GTA 6’s delay is no biggie, it’s only prompted Take-Two to tell its investors to chill and sent the game’s subreddit into temporary lockdown

If you’ve somehow not heard, GTA 6 has officially been delayed. It’ll now be dropping on May 26, 2026, rather than this Fall. Naturally, this hasn’t been big news, as you can tell by the fact it’s prompted Strauss Zelnick to whisper sweet nothings in investors’ ears and sent r/GTA6 into a temporary posting lockdown.

For those who missed the announcement of the delay, you can check out what Rockstar told us regular video game players here. The short version is that it’s sorry, and don’t worry, it promises the game will still blow your pants off.

Alongside that, Take-Two has put out a press release specially aimed at its investors, who’ve all probably crashed their mega-yachts in a panic about having to wait a bit longer for this big windfall they all definitely need to avoid having to sell their fourth supercar.

“We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations,” Take-Two CEO Zelnick has told these sweet summer capitalists.

“While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI,” he continued, “we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence. As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders.”

Meanwhile, over in the place full of people who’re even more invested in GTA 6 than the people who’ve actually invested in Take-Two, things are fine. The GTA 6 subreddit isn’t full of posts – its moderators have smartly instituted a temporary lockdown and pointed everyone towards one giant megathread where they can vent their frustrations and scream into the void.

What are those in that thread saying? Well, the majority just seem a bit bummed out that this delay announcement hasn’t at least come with a fresh glimpse at the game to help them feel a bit better. “Damn, not even some screenshots to soften the blow,” wrote a user with the handle ewankirky, “Guess the marketing campaign won’t start until late 2025 now at the earliest.”

“Thank god they’re finally officially saying something,” reasoned another with the maybe a bit creepy, but quite fitting in this case, handle of just_holdme, “Been feeling like GTA 6 was turning into a myth lol. 2026 is a wait, but at least we’re not completely in the dark anymore.”
