Sorry, Hollow Knight: Silksong fans. My heart goes out to you. Your game didn’t show up at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, so now I guess you’ll just have to shift your hopes to next week’s Switch 2 Direct. Actually, let’s just see how you’re copin-…..oh.
One of you has written out the Switch 2 Direct’s date in all caps more times than I can count. Ok, then. I’m sure they just used a lot of copy and paste, there’s not way they’ve written all 779 words of this out, and oh wait there are some instances when they’ve accidentally stopped short in a way that makes it seem like they might have done just that.
Alright, I’ll cut the bollocks. What I’m talking about is a post on the Silksong subreddit by a user with the handle Spiritual-Hippo7393, whose bio reads: “Life is a soup, and I am a fork.” Immediately after yesterday’s Nintendo Direct concluded without a Silksong appearance, they authored a post.
Its title? “APRIL 2ND APRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2ND APRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2ND APRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL APRIL 2ND APRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAPRIL 2NDAP”. Snappy. To the point. Mysterious, if you don’t know that’s that date of next week’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.
The body? it’s that same thing repeated so many times I tried counting and had to stop because it was going to take me all morning. However, I can confirm that without the cheeky “new Tomodachi Life though” that Spiritual-Hippo7393 added at the very end, the parts of the post that solely consist of “APRIL 2ND” or incomplete versions of it like “AP” or just “APRIL” add up to 850 words in total.
To put that in context, the ‘About this game’ section of Silksong’s steam page currently adds up to 267 words, meaning that this post is nearly three times its length. If you’re truly unhinged and try to copy every single word on that Steam page as it’s displayed on browser – including all of the usual Steam store accoutrements like the search bar, system requirements and links at the bottom – you’ll get something like 742 words, which is still less than 779. Damn, Spiritual-Hippo7393.
Safe to say the Skong (it’s a nonsense meme word they’ve taken to saying) nation is now looking forward to and pinning their hopes on that April 2 Switch 2 Direct, then.
It may be foolish, but they’ve heard about stuff like those recent Silksong Steam updates and the thing Jeff Grubb said the other day which now looks like it probably wasn’t about Silksong unless Ninty’s plans changed. There’s no going back. APRIL 2ND.
