Metroid fans, gather round. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has popped up at today’s Nintendo Direct showcase, with a fresh trailer but no proper release date. The game is still set to arrive at some point in 2025, though.
In today’s fresh look at the game, we got some gameplay Samus walking around the jungle planet Viewros, scanning stone figures and relics, before blasting away a surprise alien attack. We were then introduced to her psychic abilities, which let her open doors and control her beam with her mind – those abilities sound like they’ll be pretty central to the plot, but aside from that, Ninty’s keeping its cards close to its chest.
It’s not that long since were were pretty starved for Metroid Prime 4 updates, but then it showed up as the final game of last June’s Direct with a cool gameplay trailer and that release window of 2025 – that’s the year we’re now in.
It was also confirmed back then to be releasing on the original Nintendo Switch, so you wouldn’t have to worry about picking up a new console just to play it, with the Switch 2 backwards compatibility we’ve learned about since then having fully evaporated those fears into nothingness.
So, there you go, a look at Metroid prime 4, which drops some time this year. Tell your Nintendo-loving mates, even though they definitely already know. Screw it, tell your dad – he probably played the first few entries in the series back in the day, when games were good and you could smoke in pubs and I’m just saying all of this to prepare you for what he might reply with.
Also, make sure to tune in to next week’s Switch 2 Direct on April 2. You know you want to.
