That long-rumoured The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake will reportedly finally release via shadow-drop during the week of April 21, according to usually reliable podcast guy Jeff Grubb.
This as of yet still unannounced remake – that’s supposedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5 – has been the subject of alleged leaks and online chatter for absolutely ages. We first heard rumours about it back in 2023, and the speculation’s reached fever pitch this month as talk of it arriving out of the blue has swirled around like a glitched out NPC flying through the skies of Cyrodiil.
That brings us to now, and Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb on his GameBreaking News show claiming to have finally gotten confirmation of a concrete release week for the remake of 2006’s best game about people going ‘HUUGHHGGHH’ and ‘UUUGGGAAHHH’.
“Let’s update on Oblivion and the shadow drop,” he said at around the 37 minute mark of the stream, “Last week, I think it was last week on this show Emma, we were talking about it like ‘Oh yeah, it should shadow drop at any moment’. I’ll give people a week now – the week of April 21, so basically the last week of this month, next week essentially.
“It should shadow drop then, which I think other people have said but I’ve gotten separate confirmation that that’s going to be the case.”
Cool, nice. Here’s hoping this is the end point to what’s felt like an endless saga of people warning us that the Mythic Dawn is coming, and us all wondering if it’s worth getting all excited and running for the Imperial City’s sewers yet, passing some weirdo who’s just spent three hours picking their face on the way.
As for what this Unreal Engine 5 Oblivion remake will play like, it was reported back in January that an ex-Virtuos employee had leaked some details about how it’ll be switching up some gameplay systems and elements, in an apparent effort to modernise things a bit.
If you end up not liking those tweaks, massive Skyrim modding project Skyblivion is also currently set to release this year, and will offer its own take on revamping the classic game. Whether you want an Oblivion remaster at all is up to you, but you certainly can’t say you aren’t being spoiled for choice if you’re wiulling to give one a chance.
While you wait to see if this latest official Oblivion Remake release chatter comes true, you can check out this Oblivion boomer shooter one fan’s made in the meantime.
